Making a reservation & payment

How do I make a reservation?

Reservations cannot be confirmed and prices may change till payment is made. AET Travel completes all the reservations on your behalf. As part of our communications, we will indicate to you the deposit required in order to secure your holiday booking.

Best way to proceed is to complete our payment/credit card authority form, print & sign. AET Travel recommends either of the following methods to send your information securely:

  1. Phone: Complete the form with the exception of (card type, card number, expiry date, verification code), sign, then scan & email to info@aettravel.com.au. AET Travel will then call you for your credit card details. We will then ensure all reasonable secure methods are used when making bookings with the third party providers to confirm your holiday.
  2. Dropbox: If you use Dropbox, or any other of the numerous file-sharing services, you can share the document instead of sending it via email. Dropbox uses modern encryption methods to both transfer and store your data such as Secure Sockets Layer (SSL) and AES-256 bit encryption. Complete the form in full, sign, then scan & save in Dropbox. Share a link to the completed payment form file by either emailing or texting the link to: info@aettravel.com.au or +61 439 204084. For more information on Dropbox please click. We will then ensure all reasonable secure methods are used when making bookings with the third party providers to confirm your holiday.

For providers that do not require an immediate deposit your credit card number will be supplied as security for the booking. Your card is not debited until arrival.

How much deposit do I need to pay?

The deposit required is dependent upon the provider’s requirements involved in your specific itinerary. You will be informed of the deposit amount, as well as any remaining payments required prior to travel and any outstanding amounts payable upon arrival. A statement will clearly display payments made, payments outstanding and when payments are due.

Can I pay by cash or cheque?

Credit Card is the only accepted payment option.

Can I pay in another currency?

Currencies may vary depending on the providers used for your holiday booking. Generally payment will be processed in AUD unless indicated otherwise.

Are my credit card details secure?

AET Travel values the security of all your personal information. It is important with your credit card detail that this is communicated via one of the options highlighted above (phone or Dropbox). AET Travel then stores this information securely until the completion of your holiday. Your credit card details are used only for the purposes of securing/payment for your holiday as agreed by you.

Can I use more than one credit card?

Yes, you can use a number of credit cards if you wish. The providers for your booking sometimes only accept some credit card types – this will be communicated at time of booking.

Are there additional charges for using a credit card to pay?

It is likely some credit card surcharges will apply and are dependent on the provider.

What do I receive as confirmation for my holiday booking?

All bookings are a confirmed with a Final Itinerary which quotes all confirmation numbers, provider contact details and booking details. Your Final Itinerary also includes AET Travel contact details, destination information, activity information, payment status indicating monies paid and monies outstanding.

Visa requirements

Do I need a visa to visit Australia?

Yes. It is mandatory to have a valid visa to enter Australia. To apply for a visa entry to Australia please visit and you can complete this application for an electronic travel authority online. There are 3 electronic visas on offer which vary dependent on your passport nationality. Application is easy and 90% of applications are processed within 4 days (check website). It is recommended you apply at least 2 weeks prior to travel. The criteria for applying for an eVisitor (Electronic visa) is you must be outside of Australia to use this service, you have an eligible passport (please refer to above website to determine eligibility) and you are intending to visit Australia temporarily. An eVisitor visa is valid for 12 months from date of issue.

If your passport is not eligible to use the eVisitor service you will need to visit the local Australia consulate in your country to organise your Visa.

Do I need a visa to visit New Zealand?

It is mandatory to have a valid visa to enter New Zealand. If you are from a visa waiver country you must hold an NZeTA before you travel. You can apply online. Allow up to 72 hours for processing, but it could take as little as 10 minutes. The NZeTA has a 2 year validity. To check eligibility & apply please visit the official New Zealand immigration website.

Passport Validity

What passport information do I need to check prior to travel?

Your passport has to be current in order to travel, and has to contain some blank pages. In addition, please be aware that most countries require travellers to have at least six months validity remaining on their passports beyond the period of intended stay. Immigration authorities may refuse entry if you arrive with less than this. Airlines and passenger shipping lines may refuse to carry you if your passport has inadequate validity.

Travel Insurance

Do I need travel insurance?

AET Travel highly recommends you have Travel Insurance for your holiday. Essentially travel insurance covers you from the date of your departure until your return for any unforeseen circumstances: illness/lost luggage/airlines run late so you miss connections/strikes/medical requirements in transit or in Australia. AET Travel is happy to provide travel insurance for your holiday.

Travelling in Australia or New Zealand

Do you tip or give gratuities?

Gratuities and tipping in both Australia & New Zealand are not compulsory nor expected. However, it is accepted if you feel that you have received good service.

What is the legal age to drink alcohol?

The legal age to drink or purchase alcohol is 18 years or over in both Australia and New Zealand.

Where do I get a local SIM card upon arrival?

It is important that you check your phone has been unlocked/opened to enable use of foreign SIMs prior to your departure. We recommend you consider purchasing a local SIM card at the airport upon arrival. The staff at the airport are well used to helping international visitors with the right choice of pre-paid SIM for your holiday.

Australia: Look out for the following telco shops Telstra/Vodafone/Optus. My recommendation is Telstra as they have the best coverage in Australia.

New Zealand: Look out for the following shops NZ Telecom/2Degrees/Vodafone.

Can I expect fast & free Wi-Fi at my accommodations?

Many accommodation providers offer WiFi access free of charge, and some offer a faster service for a minimal upgrade charge. It is reasonable to expect that if you are visiting a remote or country location that your internet access is likely to be non-existent or slower than in the major cities.

What should I pack?

Pack clothes that travel well and can be added and removed in layers to adjust to the conditions. Packing a rain/wind proof jacket would be recommended, all year round if you are visiting southern Australia and New Zealand. Don’t forget to pack a hat to protect you from our sun – the UV is particularly strong in both Australia and New Zealand. Also, consider packing a beach towel for each person as a lot of accommodation providers do not provide these.

Driving in Australia or New Zealand

What sort of driving licence do I need?

Renters must present their current foreign Driver’s License. To drive in Australia or New Zealand you need to have a current and valid driving licence that is printed in English. If it is issued in a language other than English, it must be accompanied by a certified English translation of the license or a current international driver’s permit. Both the International Drivers Permit and the driver’s national driver’s license must be presented at the time of rental.

What is the minimum age to drive a rental vehicle?

The minimum age for renting cars in Australia is essentially 21 years old and the minimum age in New Zealand is typically 25 years old. A young drivers surcharge may be applied to the rental period for drivers between the ages of 21-24 years of age.

Which side of the road do you drive on?

In both Australia & New Zealand we drive on the left hand side of the road.

What are the car seat regulations?

Children 7 and under are required to be in a belted car seat. For further detail please refer to the following relevant websites for driving in Australia or New Zealand.

Cancellations

What happens if I have to cancel my booking?

In the unfortunate event of a cancellation of your holiday please be aware that cancellation fees and costs may apply. The consultancy fee is non-refundable. Extra cancellation fees may be charged by AET Travel. All other providers including Accommodation/Tour/Transport and other third party providers may have cancellation policies that impart fees for cancellations anytime inside 90 days of arrival. This applies particularly in peak time.

AET Travel will do our best to gain 100% of refunds where appropriate based on supplier policies. With this in mind please be aware that cancelling your holiday or making major changes is likely to incur fees. As almost every property, activity and other business may have different rules and conditions please ask if you would like to be made aware of each of these.  We strongly advise that you purchase travel insurance that will hopefully cover you for cancellation and interruption costs.

We only had one week where the family were all available for a trip away together. In a world of COVID restrictions we had no idea where to go. We asked Vicky from AET travel organise something. Her brief was to find something for a family of six, luxurious, warm, by the beach, within our budget and at short notice.AET travel delivered on every aspect. No detail was missed and nothing was too much trouble. We were presented with a few options from which to choose. We stayed at Peppers Soul in the heart of Surfers Paradise. Peppers took great care of our family and the accommodation was comfortable, luxurious and convenient.A highlight of the holiday was a trip to the stunning Lady Elliot Island on the southern aspect of the Great Barrier Reef which Vicky organised for us. We had our own tour guide Yugi, who looked after us making sure we got the most out of the day which included seeing majestic Manta rays and snorkelling with turtles. We would thoroughly recommend this experience. We are grateful to Vicky for organising.Vicky from AET looked after our family so well, thinking of every detail and communicating at every step. We selected Vicki to help us plan our month long trip to New Zealand at the recommendation of our colleagues. Over the period of a few weeks (during end of the year holidays) we worked out an itinerary, tailored to our likes that spanned the length of both islands. Vicki offered great suggestions on where to stay and activity options. We had a phone call that helped her personalize what would be best for us. I really appreciated that she then made the reservations (both lodging and key activities), using a single transfer we provided. This simplified our interactions tremendously. Vicki also kept track of events going on in New Zealand including disastrous rainfall in the Milford Sound region. She made late changes in our transportation that worked our perfectly. She helped plan the overall journey to minimize the necessary long travel from north to south. With our car reservation she arranged for the ferry crossing to the South Island and also arranged our flights from Queenstown back to Auckland before returning home. Hello there! This is the second time we have used Vicki to plan a vacation. Her guidance on accommodations are recommendations were perfect. We started our vacation in Sydney by spending a couple of days downtown. We did a bike tour, an opera house tour, and took a ferry out to Manly Beach. Our hotel room was spacious and convenient! We walked almost everywhere or jumped on public transit with ease. She recommended markets, restaurants and even found Jazz clubs! Vicki was always available to answer our questions regarding everything from OYSTER cards to Cell phone plans. It's like having a friend to take of you. Our B&B in Hunter Valley was spacious and relaxing. The wine tour she set up for us was perfect. When our son changed his plans with us, she patiently contacted our hotels and even saved us some money. All in all a perfect trip. We wouldn't have changed a thing, unless of course, we could have stayed longer! Our trip was October 2019.

Vicki, we just wanted to drop you a note of thanks. The accommodations were exactly as you described, 5 star all the way. Our trip started with a drive to the Blue Mountains Emirates One and Only. Wonderful scenery, very peaceful and a great way to ease into a holiday. Food and service were spectacular. 3 days later we landed on Hamilton Island headed to Qualia. Views of the Coral Sea, sunrises and sunsets, wow! Hard to describe the tranquility of such a place. We finished in Sydney at the Four Seasons, right at the harbor. Beautiful views of the harbor, bridge and opera house, Sydney is such a fun city with great food and a welcoming nature. This is our second Australia Expat Travel holiday and again Vicki did not disappoint! We spent 3 weeks travelling New Zealand, from South to North Island. Every detail was covered, even down to the car hire company that allows cars onto the ferries, thus making our trip as stress free as possible. At the very last minute changes to our itinerary needed to be made due to bad weather and road closures. Vicki dealt with all cancellations and fresh bookings ensuring our holiday was not at all compromised by forces of nature. Vicki is a top notch travel agent! Our trip was exactly what we hoped for! We started in Sydney for 3 nights (which was amazing),then went to Hunter Valley. Went back to Sydney then flew to Cairns/Port Douglas area, Not only did Vicki guide us through step by step with her expertise but also will book your flights, car rental, hotel stays, tours, shows and restaurants. In Sydney, We did the whale watching tour which was so fun. The whales were dancing for us that day!! We stayed in the Rocks, which the old part of Sydney. So if you are into history, hit it up! We love wine, so what else can I say about Hunter Valley other than beautiful, quiet and relaxing. Cairns and Port Douglas did not disappoint! We took the Skyrail up to Kuranda. The most lovely quaint little town I have ever been too. I highly recommend the Flames of Forest dinner; the food, wine, and entertainment was wonderful. Our most memorable night the whole 11 nights. We did a sunset snorkelling tour on the Great Barrier Reef with Sailaway Tours. Words cannot even describe that adventure. We loved all of Vicki's recommendations for our trip. She is an expert in her field and a wealth of knowledge. Her fees are very reasonable. Well worth the money just knowing nothing was over looked or forgotten. I highly recommend her service!!!! Wow! Gorgeous nature, beautiful, clean beaches, fabulous food and wine, opportunities for adventure as well as relaxation... our Great Ocean road, Melbourne, Manly & Sydney 2 week holiday was terrific. The wildfires did not impact our trip too much (did have to cancel Blue Mountains) but Vicki quickly arranged excellent alternatives that we loved! Reliable, personalized service and spot on suggestions for eating, drinking and generally making the most of our time in Australia were made possible by Vicki’s attention to detail and extensive knowledge of the country. Vicki did a great job helping us with our 3-weeks trip to NZ in Dec2019-Jan2020. We would definitely recommend her service to anyone who needs help in planning and organise their NZ-trip. Hi Vicki, We had a few wonderful days on the Western Coast of West Australia in March 2020, and it was pretty Corona free and relaxed! The kangaroos outside the windows of our villas were very entertaining and almost worth the experience alone. It is always good to be a tourist in Australia. The people are SO relaxed and friendly, and we always feel welcome. Your services are great and make the planning a real picnic and the vacation itself very easy! Thank you once again.
